It’s the end of the year, and I’m also home with my family in Southern California, which means it’s time to sit back and review the year we’ve just had in music. If I had to speak for the year 2011 overall, I would have to sadly (but confidently) say it was not one of the best years of music. Nowhere close.
I’m not saying there was no good music this year. Because there was so much of it. However, I just felt that the quality of the year’s music as a whole was sub par. But there were quite a few great stand-outs. Many, which I found myself jamming to the same few albums all year-long. These records were great, and here’s my take on the 11 best albums of 2011, selected by me for submission to The Hype Machine.
11. Pala – Friendly Fires
10. Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming – M83
9. Yuck – Yuck
8. Safari Disco Club – Yelle
7. House of Balloons – The Weeknd
6. Within and Without – Washed Out
5. El Camino – The Black Keys
4. Bon Iver – Bon Iver
